Reflection Week 3

This week was a hectic one for me.  I am running a summer camp and we are about to finish up our last week.  Not to mention my little brother graduated high school on Friday this week, so I was in rural Upstate New York for the weekend.  This means little to no internet, spotty reception and lots of graduation parties.  However, after struggling for 35 minutes with the router, I got connected (losing it every 20 minutes or so), so I could finish my work.

I felt, despite my weekend at home, that I did really good work this week!

Address the following questions:

How well do you feel you completed the requirements of the week’s assignments (inclusive of at least two TDCs, your DS106 Activity Bank Assignment, response to course readings , critique of digital story, various responses to CU Denver peers, and engagement with other online social networks)?

Week 3 definitely yielded a higher quality of work from me.  My daily creates were done early, and in my opinion did a good job of answering the daily creates requirements.  My video assignment was one of my favorites this week.  I, easily, spent 2 hours filming, editing, and recording for my video.  Even though it is not the best video, I do think it is a cute 30 second video.

What gave you trouble? What did you enjoy most? What did you learn?

I had trouble actually editing my video.  It wasn’t necessarily the program itself, I think the problem was rooted in user error.  However, I did struggle with it.  What program do you suggest to use for video editing on a pc?  I used iMovie, which I love, but my mac is on its last legs.

I really enjoyed filming the video.  When I was in high school I used to film, act in, and edit what we lovingly called “weird news.”  This was a Monty Python inspired show that aired once a week on our school’s channel.  I love making people laugh, and really enjoyed making these.

I did learn that I need to find another program, or buy another computer, yeah right.

What would you do differently? What questions do you have?

I want to improve on my video editing skills and find better software.  I’m hoping that after practice I will get better.  I am looking for suggestions on programs to use on pc for video editing.

What are some of the larger issues surrounding your work, particularly as they relate to exploring your focal theme?

My focal theme is connecting, quite easily with the readings.  I tend to choose something similar to the readings, just because I am looking for more information.  DIY is an idea that is used in almost any enrichment project.  Getting a child to create is the highest on Bloom’s Taxonomy, this is why we use it to enrich our students.

Provide a self assessment of your work quality and effort on a “exceeding expectations,” “meeting expectations,” and “below expectations” scale. Why are you “exceeding” or “meeting” or “below” course expectations?

“Exceeding Expectations”

I rated all of my activities as exceeding because I truly believe that I completed all activities on time and with my best effort.  I know that there are things that I can improve on, but in the sense of EFFORT, I put forth my best effort.

Have a wonderful Sunday!
