Week 1 Reflection

My week was rough.  Not the kind of rough that makes you want to pull your hair out.  The kind of rough that by the end of it you let out a long sigh and smile: “I did it.”

Address the following questions:

How well do you feel you completed the requirements of the week’s assignments (inclusive of at least two TDCs, your DS106 Activity Bank Assignment, response to course readings , critique of digital story, various responses to CU Denver peers, and engagement with other online social networks)?

I feel that I have done a really good job addressing the assignments for the course.  I do feel that I missed the mark on the “critique” as it was a day late.  I didn’t want to upload poor work or something I was not proud of so I waited.  I believe this is the better option, but I also believe it deserves a little discipline and self critiquing.  Looking to next week, I want to get AHEAD on assignments so I don’t run into that problem again.  My participation was truly my best work for all other assignments, I am proud of what I put out.

What gave you trouble? What did you enjoy most? What did you learn?

If you read my blog it is obvious- A LOT of things gave me trouble.  However, I made it through, so that is what the course is all about.  I really enjoy the daily creates- both making them and seeing others.  It makes me feel like I can get to know my classmates even though we aren’t physically together.  I learned that I need to get a jump start on some of the assignments so I do not fall behind.  I also learned that I am a little TOO unsure of myself.  I need to stop holding on and just LET GO with these assignments.

What would you do differently? What questions do you have?

Again, I would plan a lot better.  Spreading my work out really will help me in the future.

Question: Will you or Lisa mention if we happened to forget an assignment or you can’t find one that we did?  I am always paranoid that it will be lost in the world of twitter.

What are some of the larger issues surrounding your work, particularly as they relate to exploring your focal theme?

My focal theme is one that I am very excited about- Gifted Education.  It is often overlooked, especially in schools like mine.  Larger issues that stem from gifted education are IGNORANCE and ACCEPTANCE.  I will be including a lot of struggles within my responses and tying our technological advances with those that are helping and hurting our gifted communities.

Provide a self assessment of your work quality and effort on a “exceeding expectations,” “meeting expectations,” and “below expectations” scale. Why are you “exceeding” or “meeting” or “below” course expectations?

“Meeting Expectations”

I believe I have met expectations for the daily creates.  I did BOTH assigned daily created on time and completed what was asked.  I do not believe I reached “exceeding” because I did not do more than asked of me.  I also rated myself at a meeting for my story critique.  It was not done by the assigned date and took my a while to upload once I did complete it.

“Exceeding Expectations”

I rated my activity from the assignment bank as an exceeding because I actually completed, unknowingly at first, two assignments at once.  The assignment fits into BOTH criterion and could be considered feasible for both assignments.  I also rated my reading response as an “exceeding.”  I make many annotations and have a lengthy blog post that related to that article, the second article I read (as a grad student) and tied both into my focus.  Finally, my response to peers and engagement on social media.  I believe both of these are “exceeding” because I am present almost every day under the hashtags and I look through my peers work.  I am really trying to connect with my classmates as best I can.
